This EIRICT Lunchmeeting was organized to inform the EIRICT community about the new H2020 Work Programmes 2016-2017 and the opportunities for ICT reseach therein. We presented the following material, which comprises also a separate contribution by Gerard Verschuren, analysing the results for TU/e of the LEIT-ICT-2015 calls):
Guidance about budgets, required proposal characteristics, milestone dates, etc. for each of the individual calls open in H2020 can be found in the document Horizon Wegwijzer Calls 2016-2017 from Agentschap NL.
Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness. H2020 consists of three priorities or “pillars”: Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges. For the entire program, running from 2014 to 2020, there will be €70 billion funding from the EU. For 2014, a budget of € 9 billion is available. On December 11th, 2013 the European Committee has published the documents for H2020, including the texts for the calls for proposal that opened on the same date. Under the previous framework program for research and innovation of the EC, FP7, CORDIS was the starting point for information on calls, legal and financial backgrounds, previous projects, etc. For H2020 the EC has created a new website, the Participant Portal, where all information on H2020 can be found, next to a general H2020 information page. An important new feature of the Participant Portal is that open calls can now be searched by entering keywords. The calls for the 2014 program of H2020 opened on 11 December 2013. The European Committee has published a useful guide to all ICT-related activities in WP 2014-2015 of H2020. Guidance about budgets, required proposal characteristics, milestone dates, etc. for each of the individual calls open in H2020 can be found in the document Wegwijzer Horizon 2020 2014-2015 from Agentschap NL.
On January 8th we organized a H2020-ICT Info meeting in connection with the launch of the first calls of H2020. A senior advisor of Agentschap NL, Bert van Werkhoven, gave a presentation which illustrated the potential of H2020 for research and innovation in the ICT domain
The core H2020 program is organized in 3 pillars:
Within each pillar, several themes have been defined, and within each theme a number of calls will be published. In principle, a call is open when the definitive call text gets officially published. For the 2014-2015 period, over 100 calls were published on 11 December 2013. Some of these calls have closed in the mean time, but most are still open. Please refer to the H2020 Participant Portal for all information on these calls, including call texts, budgets and deadlines. The H2020 Participant Portal also supports a search engine to enable you to quickly zoom in on the calls that deal with your topics of interest. Euresearch, the Swiss National Contact Point for education-, research- and innovation programs, also provides a website with a continuously updated overview of currently open H2020 calls in the various H2020 Pillars and Themes. Each call identifier has a link to the webpage of that call in the H2020 Participant Portal (where detailed call information can be found), plus publication date and deadline. We advise you to always consult this Eureseach website for an up to date overview of currently open H2020 calls. This website also provides an up-to-date overview of Expected Calls (not yet published/open) and Past Calls in H2020. Whenever it is stated on the Euresearch website that you should contact the National Contact Point (NCP) for further information, you should of course contact RvO.nl ( Ramon Rentmeester or Bert van Werkhoven) instead of Euresearch.
More info about H2020 can also be found on Horizon 2020.
